The American Dog Trainer is guest at Ebingen.  The happy barking is noticed from afar, by the male and female dogs that are going to be judged by the command of Cynthia Zimmermann, a successful dog trainer from the United States.

EBINGEN:

Her specialty as a dog trainer is here for the first time as a guest of the "Ebingen Friends For Dogs" and to give her support to Kreisgruppe, Neckar-Alb, Suedwestdeutachen, Hundesportverbandes.  We have here for the first time in Ebingen a lady who is an expert in dog training and she is willing to share her program and expertise here with us.  Cynthia Zimmermann and her husband together in Kentucky, operate a working dog club.  They also train dogs for the military and police.  She also has been successful in numerous American competitions and made it to number seven ranking in this years VPG-WM (World Championship) Belgier competition.

By the method of her teaching, Cynthia Zimmermann does not use any kind of pressure.  Her team work between human and dog is emphasized.  Der Kreisgruppenvorsitzende Klaus Mayer is taking her training principles to all future training exercises.  In the two day seminar, by dog club Ebingen, we worked on the basics of dog training.  Thirty-six trainers from twenty-five dog clubs were instructed in body language between dog and trainer.

The contact with Cynthia Zimmermann, the American dog expert, came about through Josef Schmidt from Sulz, AM Neckar, a great friend for many years.  They are working together united as judges in SWHV.  The commands to the dog, from English to German were translated by Ute Knoesel.  The dog and handler achieved complete control through visual contact, then the handler moves on without losing contact with the dog.  The next step in the seminar was the complete obedience in line training with and without a line.

Because of the great success in our training seminar and great response by all participants, we are planning our new seminar in 2006.

German-American Training Seminar with the VDH Ittersbach

On April 12 and 13 the well-known and successful dog handler and trainer Cynthia Zimmermann gave a training seminar at the facilities of the VDH Ittersbach (Ittersbach Dog Club). In the United States Cynthia and her husband Gerry own a dog facility with the focus of their activities mainly on protection sports. In addition she gives seminars for the training of working dogs for the police and military forces. She has also participated with great success in many international competitions with her Belgian Malinois, named Visage. After she had held a seminar in Enningen, Marco Bischoff, the Chairman of the VDH Ittersbach, succeeded in getting her also to come to his club.

Right at the outset Cynthia explained the basic principles of her method of training. Training means to her the constant interaction between the handler and dog.  The dog’s actions are controlled by their instinct and by their intellect. You can only work with the dog’s individual abilities. The most important element of the basic obedience training is the uninterrupted visual contact between dog and handler. Since our four-legged friends can only think in “black” or “white”, the reaction on a command can only be right or wrong. There is nothing else in between.

After this basic introduction the training on the field began. 13 teams had entered for the workshop. After a competent look at the performance of each team Cynthia worked out their individual method of training. Cynthia’s principle is a modern dog training, which responds to the dog’s “black and white” thinking and without mixing up corrections and measures to be taken without doing violence to the dog. Cynthia demonstrated very impressively how consistent and unmistakable training, results in the accurate performance of the obedience exercises. Already the second training in the afternoon revealed a definite improvement. In the third round on Sunday it was obvious that the teams had made great strides. In part three of the training, the protection work, problems were of course a little bit more complicated. But also in this training the teams profited very much from Cynthia’s many years of experience in training and handling working dogs.

After two days of intensive dog training all participants agreed, that the seminar of Cynthia Zimmermann was extraordinarily instructive and for the benefit of everyone.

Rating: Highly recommended.
